Loft Insulation and the Green Deal

Home Insulation - Insulating The Loft Space

The UK Government strategy is to ensure that homes in Britain are well insulated.under the Green Deal plan. This is important when installing Loft Insulation as up to 25% of heat can be lost through the attic space.

If your loft is already has insulation, check that there is enough insulation to get the maximum saving, the current recommended thickness is 270mm. It is possible to make considerable savings on home energy bills by adopting this simple energy saving measure.

The materials used usually comprise of mineral wool insulation, this can be rolled out between joists, alternatively blown mineral fibre can be installed in the loft area. An additional method includes spray foam insulation which can be applied to the roof. This can also stabilise roof slates which maybe dislodged.

Loft Insulation for Homes
Installing sufficient insulation in the loft area can reduce energy costs

Specialist installers which are green deal approved tradesmen can install loft insulation, independent advisers who are registered in the scheme can also provide insulation, shop around and get a number of free Loft Insulation Quotes

In most cases the entire installation should take less than a day, and the benefits will be lower heating costs, reduced CO2 emissions and a warmer home in winter.

Find out more information and local installers for Loft Insulation in your area and more about the scheme in the Green Deal Blog.

To be eligible for a grant under the plan the property must display a recommendation in an energy performance certificate (EPC) for either a top-up, or complete install of insulation. Many homes have been issued with a certificate and a surveyor will ask to see this document when carrying out a survey.
